I was expecting this to be darker in the glass given its Jumilla origins, but instead it's a lovely bright cherry red, looking light on its feet.
The nose is sweet and enticing, with red fruits and a hint of liquorice. Some herbal notes come through, letting you know its Mediterranean roots.
In the mouth, it’s long and balanced with a nice bit of grip. The acidity keeps it fresh. The wine shows real elegance with a lighter weight than anticipated. No oak involvement allows the pure fruit to sing. For me, it drinks above its price point and I’ll definitely be reordering.
Having visited the wonderfully welcoming Elena Pacheco a couple of times and being a big fan of her expressions of Monastrell and Jumilla, I’m really happy to see this addition to her range. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable wine that could sit on any table. Pair it with a good pizza and you're onto a winner. I could happily see several bottles being opened over the course of an evening (responsibly, of course).
