Having started the evening with a sherry, it was only a short hop, in more ways than one, to this delicious vino de pasto from Bodegas Luis Pérez.
Pale yellow and a little greenish in the glass, the wine gives enticing tropical aromas with some citrus also coming through. Tasting the wine brings notes of pineapple, taking me back to my childhood with those delicious cubed sweets. The wine is fresh and, along with the salinity, gives a definite nod to sherry, albeit unfortified. It's dry, but with a little give, making me think it would be perfect with a lot of different dishes. It would be an ideal bottle to serve to your friends who still need convincing of sherry (odd as that might be to imagine).
Learning that the name of the wine refers to a former pier in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and having started with a Manzanilla, I was quickly transported right back to some lovely memories of pescaíto frito in Bajo de Guía.
Salud!
